Jin Yoshikawa

He has briefed and argued numerous motions in state and federal courts across multiple jurisdictions, deposed lay and expert witnesses, coordinated document review and production teams, and prepped company witnesses. Most recently, he successfully defended a Japanese pharmaceutical company in a product liability lawsuit involving a vascular closure device in the Eastern District of Tennessee.

Jin identifies as a third culture kid most comfortable in multicultural settings, having served on international teams and attending an international school. But having spent most of his life in New York, Tokyo, and Tennessee, Jin is culturally and linguistically “at home” in these regions of the world.

In 2022, Jin was selected to participate in the Emerging Leaders Program of the United States-Japan Council, a nonprofit whose mission is to strengthen the U.S.-Japan relationship and connect political, economic, and cultural leaders. In addition to strengthening Japanese relations on the international stage, Jin works on strengthening Japan-Tennessee relations as an active member of the Japan-America Society of Tennessee. He also serves as Diversity Committee Co-Chair of the Nashville Bar Association and participates in activities of API Middle Tennessee, Sister Cities of Nashville, and the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association.

Jin received his Bachelor of Science from Columbia University in 2009, studying Computer Science with a specialty in Artificial Intelligence. He served as treasurer of the Columbia Japan Society and was a Japanese translator and tutor for the Columbia University Translating and Tutoring Agency.

Before practicing law, Jin was an associate consultant at the Tokyo branch of Bain & Company, advising a U.S. tech company entering the Japanese market. He was assigned to teams forecasting risk, analyzing customer satisfaction, and exploring opportunities in the early Japanese smartphone market. During his tenure at Bain, his client acquired over 20M subscribers and established a firm foothold in the country.

Jin harnessed his knowledge and experience at Bain into his work in the international film and television industry. As a local production manager, he assisted Japanese TV networks and advertising agencies with all aspects of filming in the U.S. and Canada, including location and talent scouting, local sourcing and logistics, and multilingual interdepartmental communications.

In 2017, Jin decided to apply his technology, business, and international skillsets to earn a law degree from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. While there, he published an article on AI and product liability in the Vanderbilt Journal of Entertainment & Technology Law and later served as the journal’s editor-in-chief. He interned at the Nashville Metropolitan Government’s Law Department and the Tennessee Attorney General’s Office. He also volunteered at the Shade Tree Clinic, a medical-legal partnership between Vanderbilt Medical School and Vanderbilt Law School.

• Assisted a Japanese citizen on legal troubles during the national’s stay in Tennessee.
• Argued and won a motion to dismiss a health care liability action against a hospital in Tennessee state court.
• Drafted a successful Daubert motion for a medical device manufacturer in the Eastern District of Tennessee, winning full dismissal of case.
• Served as second chair on healthcare liability action in Tennessee state court.
• Argued and won a motion for partial dismissal of a medical product liability action in Utah federal court.
