I started my career as a school teacher and later became an education consultant. Now as a lawyer representing school districts, I bring a deep understanding of how schools work – the daily lives of teachers and administrators – to the legal counsel that I provide.

KaShonda L. Day joined Adams and Reese in 2017 after serving for seven years as in-house counsel for one of the largest school districts in the state. With a primary focus on matters involving students with disabilities under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Section 504, KaShonda represents school districts in responding to formal state complaints, administrative due process hearings and federal court litigation.

Beyond special education law, KaShonda provides legal counsel to school boards, administrators, and other education professionals across the state. Her practice includes advising on contracts, Title VII compliance, board governance, policy development, student discipline, constitutional issues, and discrimination, harassment, and retaliation matters. KaShonda has successfully represented school districts and other entities in labor and employment disputes, employee termination and non-renewal hearings, as well as cases before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and federal courts.

KaShonda collaborates with superintendents and district administrators, and decision-makers from other organizations, businesses, and public entities to provide strategic guidance on day-to-day operations, policy development, and compliance matters. She provides professional development training to schools on special education matters, to other organizations on disability and accommodation-related issues, and to both on labor and employment laws and other key legal topics.
