The law firm of Adams and Reese LLP and the Association of Corporate Counsel have partnered to present an upcoming seminar, “The Year in Review: Ethics Opinions and Case Law for Corporate Counsel,” followed by a panel, “Litigating with Other People’s Money: Commercial Litigation Funding, Ethics, and Law,” to take place on Tuesday, December 9, at the Memphis Hilton Hotel, from 2 p.m. to 5:15 p.m.
“We have a tremendous panel experienced in the commercial litigation business, including a representative of a prominent commercial litigation funder, a veteran of the funding business, and a well-respected academic who has written extensively in the field,” said Adams and Reese Partner Lucian T. Pera, who will moderate the panel. “Our panelists will survey the current litigation funding environment and then explore the business, legal and ethical issues that arise during the lifetime of the funding by a commercial funder of a significant commercial claim.”
The panelists include Charles Agee, CEO, Westfleet Advisors; Travis D. Lenkner, Managing Director, Gerchen Keller Capital; and Anthony Sebok, Professor of Law, Cardozo School of Law.
Pera said the panel will also focus on how the developing business of funding commercial litigation, including what types of claims and claimants are being funded, the process of funding, and the legal and lawyer ethics questions raised by the business.
The panel will be preceded by a seminar by Pera and colleague and Adams and Reese Partner Ben Fox, who will present a review of the last year’s worth of notable decisions and ethics opinions, providing practical guidance for corporate counsel.
The seminar has been approved for three dual CLE credit hours by the Tennessee Commission on Continuing Legal Education & Specialization.
