Adams and Reese education attorney Lee Reid shared knowledge of charter schools in two different presentations at the Louisiana Association of Public Charter Schools' 2019 Annual Conference in New Orleans.

The first, "Long-Term, High-Impact: Accessing Major Savings with Permanent Facilities Financing," covered new long-term facility financing options thanks to the reintroduction of tax-exempt bonds and the entrance of new investors in the charter school market. Recent legislative changes and the passage of three tax-exempt bonds for three charter school facilities by the Louisiana Bond Commission are evidence of this change.

Reid and his co-presenters discussed the pros and cons of each such option available to Louisiana charter schools.

Reid also presented "Louisiana Code of Ethics," a one-hour review of the Board's annual ethics training for public employees, including public charter school employees and board members.

At Adams and Reese, Reid counsels clients in education, government relations, and economic development matters. He draws on his experience in all of these areas as he continues to play a pivotal role in the charter school movement, guiding institutions through a complicated regulatory environment. A pioneering lawyer in the charter school law area in Louisiana, he advises clients in a spectrum of matters, including the formation of charter organizations, the application process, operational issues and the drafting of policy and legislation at both the local and state level. The Louisiana Supreme Court recently ruled in favor of clients Lee represented in a seminal case on charter school funding; the Court’s high-profile decision is likely the most important one affecting education in the state since the inception of these schools.
