Four Adams and Reese attorneys in the firm’s Houston office were recognized for their work in the legal profession as Matthew A. Copeland, Adam Massey, Benjamin C. Miller and Evan A. Moeller were named 2018 Rising Stars by Texas Super Lawyers® (by Thomson Reuters).
Copeland, Massey and Miller were recognized in field of Civil Litigation: Defense while Moeller garnered distinction for Business Litigation. The honor is the fifth in as many years for Massey and Moeller, with Miller being recognized for the fourth-straight year and Copeland being mentioned for the third year in a row.
The Rising Stars list recognizes no more than 2.5 percent of attorneys in each state. To be eligible for inclusion in Rising Stars, a candidate must be either 40 years old or younger, or in practice for 10 years or less.
Copeland joined Adams and Reese in 2015 and his practice focuses on representing large public companies, private businesses and individuals in various commercial disputes and tort litigation. His experience includes prosecuting and defending claims for breach of contract, fraud and violations of the Deceptive Trade Practices Act. He also has extensive experience defending businesses against personal injury and wrongful death claims. Copeland is a member of the State Bar of Texas, Houston Bar Association, Order of the Barristers and the Silver Spurs Alumni Association.
Massey, who was named partner in 2015, is a first-chair trial attorney with significant experience representing both plaintiffs and defendants in state court, federal court and arbitration proceedings throughout Texas. Since joining Adams and Reese in 2008, Massey’s work has focused primarily on complex commercial and tort litigation, including matters involving contract and breach of warranty disputes, all aspects of the upstream oil and gas industry, construction defects, personal injury claims and product liability claims. He is a member of the State Bar of Texas Committee on Law Focused Education, and in law school he was a member of the South Texas Law Review and the student organization Order of the Lytae.
Miller joined the firm as special counsel in 2017 and his practice focuses on litigation cases involving personal injury, product liability, premises liability, construction, and commercial and general civil litigation. He is a member of the Texas Young Lawyers Association, the Houston Bar Association, the Houston Young Lawyers Association and the Texas Association of Defense Counsel.
Moeller, who came to Adams and Reese as special counsel in 2016 and was named partner in 2018, has tried cases in both federal and state courts, as well as before multiple tribunals, representing businesses and high net-worth individuals in litigation cases involving business, energy, construction, financial services and real estate. In addition to his litigation practice, Moeller regularly counsels major financial institutions in developing and improving their legal order processing and decreased customer policies and procedures. He is a member of the Texas Bar Foundation’s Life Fellow and Nominating Committee and is a Life Member of the Multi-Million Dollar Advocates Forum.
