Jay Michael Ross has been appointed the Partner in Charge of the firm’s Mobile, Ala. office by Managing Partner Gif Thornton. The firm has a Partner in Charge in each of its offices throughout the southern United States and Washington, D.C.
Ross advises clients primarily on issues related to municipal and county governments, with an emphasis on economic development, intergovernmental relations and state and federal regulatory, organizational and operational matters.
He provides day-to-day operational advice to municipal and county governments throughout south Alabama, and he works with clients to create cooperative, tax and other improvement districts throughout the region to promote economic development and provide incentives for business development. Ross has served as lead negotiator for his government clients in economic development projects in south Alabama worth in excess of $1 billion.
In addition to his government practice, Ross also serves as outside general counsel to business and individual clients, representing professional services firms and other clients in general civil litigation matters as well as corporate law, bankruptcy and probate matters.
Ross is a 1985 graduate of the Cumberland School of Law at Samford University and received his B.A. from the University of Alabama in 1982. He is a 2010 graduate of Leadership Mobile, a member of Mobile United and a board member of the Goodwill Easter Seals of the Gulf Coast and Mobile Area Boy Scouts.
Ross’ current professional involvement includes serving as is a member of the Alabama Municipal Attorneys Association, the Alabama Municipal Judges Association and the International Municipal Lawyers Association. He is an active member of the Alabama State Bar Association, Family Law Section and the Mobile County Bar Association.
