The Louisiana State Bar Association, co-sponsored by the LSBA Appellate Section, announces an “Advanced Appellate Practice” CLE Seminar for Wednesday, November 8, at the Hilton New Orleans Riverside Hotel. The seminar will feature an all-star cast of 11 sitting state and federal judges, and veteran appellate attorneys who practice in Louisiana and on the national stage.
Adams and Reese Counsel Leigh Ann Schell serves as the 2023-2024 Chair of the Louisiana Board of Legal Specialization Appellate Practice Advisory Commission. Schell will also be a featured speaker in one of the panels, “An Overview of ‘Year One’ on the Appellate Bench.”
This year’s Advanced Appellate Practice seminar will be chaired by Thomas Flanagan (Flanagan Partners) and Eva Dossier (Stanley, Reuter, Thornton & Alford). The seminar will discuss best practices for oral argument and brief-writing before the appellate courts and Louisiana Supreme Court. The newest judge on the U.S. Fifth Circuit will be interviewed by one of her colleagues. A former U.S. Solicitor General and Fifth Circuit judge will speak about federal appellate.
A maximum of 6.25 hours of CLE credits and Appellate Practice Specialization credit is pending. The cost for section members is $325 ($350 after Oct. 27) and for non-section members is $350 ($375 after Oct. 27). The fee includes electronic course materials, seminar attendance, and coffee/refreshments.
