Adams and Reese continues to expand its Global Intellectual Property practice with the addition of attorney Mengxuan Wang. She is a recent graduate with a J.D. from Washington University School of Law, has an LL.M. in Comparative and International Law from SMU Dedman School of Law, and two degrees from Peking University in Beijing, China.
Fluent in Chinese, Wang is well-versed in Chinese laws and regulations, enabling her to assist U.S. companies looking to do business in China and Chinese businesses expanding into the U.S. Her studies at The University of Nottingham in the U.K. have provided her with a strong foundation in European intellectual property laws and an understanding of the EU's approach to IP and related legal frameworks.
“Mengxuan’s global perspective, fluency in key languages, and diverse educational background are all valuable assets to our clients and their cross-border IP needs,” said Edward Playfair, Adams and Reese Global IP Team Leader and Nashville Office Partner in Charge. “With this addition to the team, we solidify our position as the Go-To firm for Chinese companies doing business in the United States, and a leading law firm in the global IP landscape.”
Wang is experienced in trademark law and brand protection, anti-counterfeiting measures for businesses, and navigating the legal implications of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence. She has trademark litigation experience in federal courts, opposition proceedings, and motions before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB). She has also handled transactional practices such as domain enforcement before the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and copyright legal matters. Additionally, she advises clients on right of publicity issues and is a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/U.S.).
Wang is the fourth attorney over the last two years added to the Adams and Reese Global IP Practice. Also, this year, patent law counsel John Scott joined Adams and Reese. Scott is a U.S. Patent Attorney with more than a decade of experience preparing and prosecuting patent applications for clients and responding to official communications issued by both the United States Patent and Trademark Office and international patent offices.
In 2023, AI Team Leader Jin Yoshikawa, a former associate consultant in Tokyo, and Haodong Zhong, fluent in Mandarin and business experience in China, both joined Adams and Reese.
“We continue to invest in attorneys who have valuable international experience and legal knowledge across various IP practices, and Mengxuan is a perfect fit for our team to continue that momentum,” said Mitch Boult, Adams and Reese Executive Committee Member and leading member of the Global IP Practice and Trademark Team.
The Adams and Reese Global IP Practice advises corporate clients across brand protection, anti-counterfeiting, AI, copyright, entertainment and new media, franchising, IP litigation and dispute resolution.
