Our Summer Associate Program is designed to give law students first-hand and in-depth understanding of what it is like to be an attorney at Adams & Reese.
As a summer associate, you will receive personal attention from both a peer mentor and partner advisor who are responsible for including you in client interactions, intake meetings, depositions, mediations, hearings, and closings. You will gain hands-on experience through challenging and diverse work assignments that come from real cases the Firm is handling.
We are intentional about connecting and building real relationships with our summer associates through social activities both in and outside of the office. We also provide weekly lunch-and-learns during which partners across the footprint provide overviews of our top practice areas and weekly presentations by firm leadership providing an inside view on the business of law, our strategic planning and internal programs to maximize our lawyers’ potential. We hope that you will recognize our core values of teamwork, leadership building, and collegiality in everything we do.
“The area of law that you practice in may change over time, but if you pick the right firm, the people shouldn’t. I am fortunate. I could not imagine working anywhere else; and that is because I chose a Firm based on not only its prestige, but its culture.“ - Cate Creed, Associate in New Orleans (Summer Associate, 2020)
Law School to Law Career
We are resolute in making the transition from law school to a law career a seamless one. As an associate with the Firm, you can count on a strong support system made up of your individually assigned mentor, cohort mentoring group, and peers who are sincerely invested in seeing you succeed.
We set realistic expectations for each phase of an attorney’s development, and provide transparent feedback, so you know how you’re doing every step of the way. In your first year, our focus will be on your practical training, working on client assignments with regular feedback, while also learning about the Firm’s organization, policies, and corporate culture. Your second year focuses on enhancing your legal skill sets while increasing your client responsibilities, commensurate with your development.
You will also have the opportunity to become more engaged with our HUGS Program (Hope, Understanding, Giving, and Support), which focuses on our core value of giving back to our communities through both extensive pro bono work and office-based events. Our seasoned associates receive ongoing professional development through our Associate Mentoring Program, monthly associate training lunch-and-learns, and all associates attend an annual retreat, with leadership in attendance and plenty of networking opportunities.
“As a summer associate, I noticed how senior attorneys made a significant effort to get me involved in a diverse range of cases. That intentional mentoring approach is still prevalent now that I’m an associate. Current law students should know that, at all stages, Adams and Reese attorneys go out of their way to guide your professional development.” - Thomas Fuhrman, Associate in Tampa (Summer Associate, 2022)
Path to Partnership
From the start, associates are introduced to our clients and our matters, and the work can be demanding and complex – but it’s also fulfilling. Smart, hard-working, independent-thinking attorneys thrive here, and associates may be eligible for partnership consideration after six years of full-time law practice. Through transparency, the Firm clearly communicates to all associates the pathway to partnership from Day 1.
Although many of our Adams & Reese associates are hired from our Summer Associate Program, we welcome all highly qualified candidates who are interested in one of our positions.
“I started my legal career with Adams & Reese as a first-year associate and I personally traveled the path from associate to partner. In my experience, the Firm provides all attorneys with opportunities for challenging work in a collegial environment, encourages and supports attorneys in their personal and professional goals, and is transparent about the expectations for success. While the responsibilities can be challenging, there is tremendous pride in seeing your hard work pay off. Now, as a partner, I can confidently say that we really do want all associates to be our future partners and work hard to make that goal a reality.” - Lyndey Bryant, Partner in Columbia
Adams & Reese is now accepting 2L applications for our 2026 Summer Associate Program, which is a full-time, six-week position, beginning mid-May (first-half).
