History, Values & Vision

Adams & Reese traces our roots to St. Clair Adams, Sr., who served as New Orleans District Attorney from 1908 to 1912. Renowned as one of Louisiana’s most distinguished trial attorneys, Mr. Adams welcomed his son, St. Clair, Jr., and W. Ford Reese into his practice in 1943. In 1951, St. Clair Adams, Jr. and Ford Reese officially formed the Adams & Reese partnership.

Early expansion to Mobile and Houston reflected a growing practice along the Gulf Coast in the energy and transportation sectors. Our firm has always operated at the intersection of business and government, as reflected by our establishing offices in Baton Rouge and Washington, DC. 

 

Over the years, we've moved into new markets in the Southeast, both by merging with local firms and by hiring groups of laterals to establish offices for Adams & Reese. We have merged with legacy firms including Lange Simpson in Birmingham, Stokes & Bartholomew in Nashville, Ellis Lawhorne in Columbia, SC, and Volpe, Bajallia in Jacksonville. Large groups of laterals gave us our start in Jackson, MS and Tampa.


Today, we have more than 300 lawyers and government relations advisors and are recognized annually in The American Lawyer’s “AmLaw 200,” highlighting the nation’s largest law firms by revenue and headcount.

We have “brick and mortar” offices in 20 markets, and are strategically located in the regions with the most dynamic growth and economic activity in the United States. We work across the country and around the world. Clients rely on us to deliver the right solutions across a spectrum of business needs anywhere, anytime.


Beyond legal achievements, Adams & Reese has a rich history of community service through our HUGS corporate philanthropy program and CA&RES pro bono initiative. Our employees have dedicated thousands of hours to serving those in need and ensuring equal access to justice.
