Overview

Ashley Jackson is an Associate in the Adams & Reese Intersection of Business and Government Practice Group, representing institutional clients primarily in education law, including their operational, regulatory, and labor and employment matters.

Practicing in both the Adams & Reese Baton Rouge and New Orleans offices, Ashley was formerly an Attorney with the Louisiana Department of Education, Assistant Attorney General with the Louisiana Department of Justice, and Administrative Law Judge with the Louisiana Workforce Commission.

With the LDOE, Ashley provided legal counsel pertaining to a variety of labor and employment related matters; represented the Department in EEOC claims, employment-related litigation matters, and disclose of documents; and developed and conducted employee onboarding.

Ashley is active in the Baton Rouge community. She is an active member of the Baton Rouge Bar Association. She has also coordinated the Angola CLE.

Ashley earned her J.D. from Southern University Law Center. She formerly served as SULC Associate General Counsel, and she continues to give back to her law school through her work with the SULC Outreach Program. While in law school, Ashley was Parliamentarian of the Moot Court Board, Articles Editor of Journal of Race, Gender and Poverty; and was a CALI Award Recipient for Trial Advocacy. 

Originally a native of Columbia, South Carolina, Ashley has a B.A. in Psychology with a minor in Child and Family Studies from Columbia College. She was the Chair of the Pre-Law Society.

Representation

  • Provided legal counsel to the State of Louisiana on all matters pertaining to compliance with the Louisiana Charter Demonstrations Law and state and federal special education laws, including matters involving the Louisiana State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) and the Recovery School District (RSD).
  • Advised BESE on matters pertaining to the operation of Type 2 charter schools, including the implementation of procedures to mitigate risk and legal exposure.
  • Advised RSD on all matters pertaining to its operations, including compliance with building regulations and facilities management agreements and the negotiation of service contracts with various outside entities.
  • Prepared, reviewed, and negotiated contracts, memoranda of understanding, and other legal documents for the LDOE and RSD, including lease agreements, construction agreements, and employment documents.
  • Ensured the protection of sensitive employee/student data and information protected by HIPAA, FERPA, and other student data privacy laws
