Overview
Laurie Young’s practice centers on the litigation of maritime, labor and employment, hospitality and general litigation matters. She advocates for clients in both state and federal courts and before administrative law judges.
Laurie counsels oil and oilfield service companies as well as employers in Jones Act and Longshore and Harbor Workers Compensation Act issues. She also represents businesses, including many hotels, in premises liability, products liability and workers’ compensation claims.
In litigation involving municipalities, public agencies and employers, Laurie handles labor disputes related to statutes such as the Fair Labor Standards Act, Title VII and the American with Disabilities Act. She always seeks to resolve issues as quickly and cost-effectively as possible, including the mediation or arbitration route if it is warranted.
A frequent guest lecturer, Laurie speaks at Louisiana law schools as well as at private seminars and in-house programs tailored to individual clients or client groups. Laurie contributes most of her pro bono services to New Orleans area juvenile courts and also raises funds for nonprofit groups that serve youth in the area.
Laurie is a member of the Federal Bar, Louisiana Bar and New Orleans Bar Associations and the Defense Research Institute. She has been named to New Orleans CityBusiness' "Women of the Year" Hall of Fame, as a three-time recipient of the award. She was recognized by CityBusiness for Leadership in Law (2018) in New Orleans.
