Overview
Adams & Reese advocates for businesses, governmental entities, trade associations, non-profits and organizations in states across the Southeast and with the federal government in Washington, DC. We forge connections that advance desired legislative changes, modify regulation, halt problematic policy and secure necessary appropriations that benefit our clients.
Our government affairs attorneys and advisors have mastered local, state, and federal government processes and procedures, forming the foundation of our success in legislative advocacy and public strategy. We have built an unmatched network of attorneys and registered lobbyists who maintain long-standing working relationships with elected officials, legislative staff, executive agencies, and boards and committees that steer change.
Our government affairs lawyers and advisors engage with legislators, addressing the intersection of business and legal affairs, and informing them of the practical implications of their legislation, policies, and statutes, as well as their impact on businesses and constituents.
Solving Business Problems
Legislative advocacy often involves removing financial barriers and outdated regulatory constraints. Adams & Reese secured federal debt relief for four Historically Black Colleges and Universities, securing strategic appropriations and successfully negotiating the forgiveness of a $450 million loan, alleviating a substantial financial burden.
In another matter, an antiquated Tennessee pharmaceutical regulation had unintended consequences for a client’s business operations. We partnered with the Board of Pharmacy and successfully advocated for a legislative change that corrected the issue and added $3 million to the client’s bottom line.
Finding Creative Solutions
Our deep experience allows Adams & Reese to identify unconventional tactics to address business challenges. When a Fortune 100 energy company faced an uncertain liability for a specific toxic tort issue, we successfully lobbied to change the statute of limitations. The new law curbed the client’s litigation exposure, delivering both financial savings and long-term stability.
